Before and After
- Before: The front of the property was an uneven and messy patch of weeds and soil. It offered no practical parking, detracted from the home’s appearance, and lacked a proper, defined step to the front door.
- After: The area has been totally transformed into a sleek, modern driveway. The smart charcoal block paving provides ample parking space, while the new feature step and integrated drainage channel add both functionality and a high-quality finish, significantly boosting the home’s kerb appeal.
Project Steps
- Site Excavation
- The project began with a full excavation of the front garden. The entire area was cleared of all weeds and topsoil using a mini-digger and dug down to the required depth for a new, stable foundation.
- Sub-Base Installation
- A robust sub-base of MOT Type 1 hardcore was laid across the entire area and thoroughly compacted with a plate compactor. This creates a solid, load-bearing foundation that is essential for a long lasting driveway.
- Drainage & Step Construction
- A linear channel drain was installed across the entrance of the driveway to capture surface water and prevent runoff issues. We then constructed a new, wide step leading to the front porch. This was built with charcoal block risers and a decorative border in a contrasting brindle colour to create a standout feature.
- Block Paving & Finishing
- A screeded sand bed was prepared before the main driveway was laid using charcoal block pavers in a classic 45-degree herringbone pattern. A decorative border, matching the design of the step, was installed across the front. Finally, the entire driveway was jointed with kiln-dried sand and compacted to lock the pavers securely in place.
