Before and After
Before: The original front area consisted of a sloped patch of grass with worn edging, scattered gravel, and no proper parking space. The uneven surface and lack of structure made it difficult to maintain and didn’t complement the property’s appearance.
After: The new driveway is a striking upgrade. Clean charcoal block paving laid in a herringbone pattern is framed with a crisp light grey border, giving the whole space definition and a premium look. The driveway is now level, spacious, easy to maintain, and adds superb kerb appeal.
How the Transformation Happened
1. Site Clearance & Excavation
We began by clearing the existing lawn, gravel, and debris. The entire front section was excavated to the correct depth, creating the essential foundation needed for a durable driveway installation.
2. Preparing the Base
A high-quality MOT Type 1 sub-base was laid and mechanically compacted to form a strong, stable, and long-lasting foundation. This ensures the driveway will stay level and resist sinking over time.
3. Sand Screed Layer
A smooth, even layer of sharp sand screed was carefully set and levelled. This is a key step to achieving a perfectly aligned finish once the blocks are laid.
4. Block Paving Installation
We installed premium charcoal block paving in a classic herringbone pattern to create maximum strength and a timeless aesthetic. To frame the driveway and enhance contrast, we added a light grey soldier-course border running around the perimeter.
5. Finishing Touches
Once all blocks were laid, kiln-dried sand was brushed between the joints before the surface was compacted. This locks the blocks tightly in place and gives the driveway its final polished look.
