Before and After

• Before: The original driveway lacked space and structure, hemmed in by uneven ground and a sloping lawn. To address this, we undertook a full redesign that included reshaping the area, building a decorative retaining wall, and installing a smooth, durable resin surface with elegant paving accents.
• After: The finished driveway is a real showpiece. The resin surface, with its Dobbsweir colour blend, offers a smooth, modern finish that perfectly complements the freshly laid sandstone edging.

Project Steps

1. Excavation & Retaining Wall Build
   • The project began with full excavation of the existing surface. We then constructed a solid retaining wall along the left boundary of the driveway, incorporating a flowing S-bend design that adds both support and a touch of architectural flair. The new wall allowed us to raise the adjacent ground by over two feet to match the extended driveway level.
2. Ground Build-Up
   • With the wall in place, we laid a reinforced hardcore sub-base, compacted thoroughly for strength and durability. A geotextile membrane was added to reduce weed growth and increase ground stability ahead of surfacing.
3. Edging Installation & Tarmac Base
   • To frame the drive, we installed Indian sandstone setts on a solid mortar bed, creating a clean and defined edge around the entire perimeter. Next, a porous stone mastic asphalt (SMA) base layer was applied to ensure proper drainage and provide the perfect surface for the resin finish.
4. Resin Application
   • The finishing touch was a resin-bound overlay, hand-trowelled for sleek and seamless look. We used a 3-6mm aggregate in the Dobbsweir colour blend, chosen to complement the tones of the surrounding property and edging stones. The result is a hardwearing, stylish driveway that balances form and function.
