Project Overview
In a quiet corner of Haslingden, we were called in to breathe life back into a tired and unloved garden space. The original layout had become overgrown and weather-beaten, with cracked paving slabs, unstable wooden steps and neglected planting areas. What once may have been a cosy outdoor space had turned into a forgotten corner, but we were about that was about to change.

Before and After
- Before: The original garden space was overgrown and neglected, with cracked paving, rotting timber steps and tired decking that had seen better days.
- After: The garden has been completely transformed with a brand new patio, steps and gravel pathway. It has instantly and significantly enhanced the value and appeal of the property. It has opened up the space, so now it can be used for furniture and entertainment and much more, all year round!
Project Steps
- Clearing the Canvas
- We began by carefully stripping back the old garden, lifting the moss-covering concrete slabs, removing tired decking, and clearing out overgrowth and debris. A long narrow walkway alongside the property was also cleared and prepared for a new gravel finish, transforming a neglected area into something clean and functional.
- Reimagining the Layout
- Next came the redesign. We introduced elegant Indian sandstone paving, known for its timeless look and natural tones. This stone was chosen to blend beautifully with the surrounding garden and the home’s traditional style. Raised beds were neatened up and framed with fresh stonework, ready for new planting.
- Laying the Foundations
- The patio area was excavated to the correct depth and laid with a solid hardcore base. A weed-resistant membrane was installed to keep everything low maintenance, followed by a carefully levelled bed of sharp sand. The new Indian sandstone slabs were then laid out in a thoughtful pattern, giving the space flow and cohesion.
- New Steps & Smooth Transitions
- We built a brand new set of steps using matching Indian sandstone, ensuring safer and more attractive access between levels in the garden. Timber framing was added around flower beds to give a crisp finish and clean boundaries.
- Gravel Pathway Installation
- To finish the side of the house, we added a fresh gravel pathway, offering improved drainage and a much cleaner, tidier space for bin access or storage. The fresh gravel lifted the look instantly and brought a much needed sense of order.
Client Feedback
The clients were thrilled with the transformation. They highlighted how the new patio and garden layout has completely revitalised their outdoor space.
Conclusion
What was once a cramped and crumbling space is now a bright, welcoming garden perfect for relaxing and entertaining. The new Indian sandstone patio provides a beautiful open area for furniture and planting, while the refreshed decking area (now fully secure) invites morning coffees and evening gatherings. With fresh turf, bold steps, elegant paving and crisp gravel edging, this garden in Haslingden has been completely revived. A true transformation from neglected to polished, and a joy for the homeowners to use again.
