Project Overview
We have just finished an entire garden transformation in Blackburn, transforming an old and dangerous outdoor space into an amazing new Raj Green Indian Sandstone patio. The existing outdoor space had old and tired concrete slabs, an old timber decking area that was rotting, and uneven surfaces that were no longer practical or visually attractive.
We aimed to completely transform the outdoor space into a clean, hard-wearing, and low-maintenance area that the homeowner could use and enjoy all year round.

As can be seen in the images, the state of the previous garden is quite poor:
- Old paving slabs with signs of wear and moss growing on them
- A decking area in a poor state of repair with structural failure
- Levels were uneven and drainage poor
- The amount of usable space is limited
The decking in the previous garden had become dangerous and in need of removal before any work on a new decking area could start.
After:
The finished patio has completely transformed the garden:
- Clean and modern design with improved usability
- Variation in natural colours to match the property
- Lasting finish resistant to the elements
- Slip-resistant finish perfect for everyday usage
Raj Green sandstone is one of the best materials to be used for a patio in the UK due to its durability, natural traction, and resistance to the British weather without fading or cracking.
Our Process
1. Full Strip-Out & Preparation
We began by removing the damaged decking structure and lifting all existing slabs. The area was cleared back to a solid base, ready for proper groundwork.
2. Groundworks & Sub-Base Installation
A new, solid sub-base was installed using MOT Type 1 and compacted thoroughly to ensure long-term stability. Correct falls were introduced to improve drainage and prevent water pooling.
3. Laying the Raj Green Indian Sandstone
We installed a mixed-size Raj Green Indian Sandstone patio, carefully laying each slab to create a natural and balanced pattern. This stone is known for its blend of green, brown, and grey tones, giving a timeless, traditional finish .
4. Precision Cutting & Edging
All edges and awkward areas around walls, pipework, and structures were neatly cut for a clean, professional finish.
5. Jointing & Finishing Touches
The patio was pointed with a durable jointing compound, completing the transformation and locking everything firmly in place.
